Back on the blog train

After almost one year of not writing in this blog, I’ve decided to venture back in the business of information.

I know from a lot of comments left that people appreciate the information and want to know more about being a father because people have no idea what it’s like until it hits them. Well, I’m here to tell you, no amount of information I can give you will prepare you for what’s ahead (for those of your expecting a baby real soon). I will tell you that I can give you ideas about what you need to prepare for so that in those times when panic strikes, you know exactly what you can do.

For just a side note, I saw an interesting TV show coming up on NBC. It’s called “The Baby Borrowers”. From the description, it seems they are giving young couples a baby to see how well they can manage the pain of parenthood. The website is http://www.nbc.com/The_Baby_Borrowers/ if you want to check it out. The show starts Monday, Feb 18th, at 7 PM on NBC.

For all of you out there that didn’t know, I was married this summer to a beautiful young girl named Rachel. Yes, she is my baby’s mama if you were wondering. We had a great wedding and Noah was so cute in his little tux. I will be posting pictures as soon as I can on here so you can see how gorgeous my new wife looked and how handsome I looked, of course.

We just recently got back from a quasi-honeymoon in Vegas this past November. I say “quasi” because of the fact that we went with my parents. This worked out good for two reasons: they paid for a lot of stuff, and they knew where the good shows were. Other than that, we gambled big time down there. Rachel was absolutely addicted to the wheel of fortune slots. She was down like $200 until she hit big on three red sevens on a hot machine. My forte was more about the poker and blackjack. I sucked in blackjack, as my money disappeared after roughly 10 minutes of sitting on the 5 dollar tables. Poker was a different story….

The poker buy-ins were $50 + and extra $15 if you wanted 1000 more chips. I threw my money down and came back to start playing at midnight. I had no idea what I was in for. I started off on a table with a bunch of amateurs. There was only one good player who you could read like a book. He bluffed almost every hand, and I stayed out of his way. That was until I had pocket rockets. I slow played him so bad that I took almost half of his chips. Three other times I would get pocket aces, playing high bets right away. If people folded, I still showed my hand so people knew that I meant it when I was betting. I made it all the way until the final table. I had Ace Queen, both diamonds, and I made a huge bet… $4000. Then I was raised to an all-in bet acrossed the table. This guy was a Russian and he was playing overly aggressively. He had one like the last 10 hands. I called him without even thinking and he threw up a King-King. All I needed was an ace or two queens, but they never came. I finished in 5th place out of about 30 players. For my first real poker experience ever, it turned out pretty good.

Being a dad now has changed a lot. In my next post I’m going to be talking about timeouts and how terribly crazy 1 and a half year olds can be (but it’s still fun).
